Gen Digital fell 12% for making a bid. MGM fell 11% for losing one.

Two takeover stories gave the S&P 500 its two worst performers on 24 September. Gen Digital lost $1.9 billion after reports that it had approached GoDaddy, more than three times what GoDaddy gained. MGM Resorts lost $1.1 billion after Barry Diller's People Inc. withdrew its $48.30-a-share offer.
